Towards the Improvement of the Writing Process Using the Focus on Form Episodes: With Reference to Taif University Preparatory Year

Sawsan M.A. Ahmed

Abstract

In spite of the abundance of research dealing with the writing skill, the literature has revealed great shortcomings in the methods of teaching writing. However, recent works in applied linguistics and second language acquisition on form-oriented instruction, explicit teaching and learning, has gained popularity in practice. An example of such studies is one that investigates the use of focus on form episodes (FFEs). The method has been shown to have a positive effect on the development of English as a Foreign Language (EFL). Such methods were designed to put emphasis on the teaching of from. When put to the test, it showed how input can be used to help learners to internalize grammatical rules. The method also dictates that feedback is done as a form of interaction between the instructor and learners and is considered as an integral part that contributes to the success of this process.
