Improving Agricultural Science Teachers’ Work Attitude in Akwa Ibom State of Nigeria: The Financial Initiative Perspective

Abstract


This research study carried out to investigate the influence of financial incentive initiatives on agricultural teachers’work attitude in Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria. One hypothesis was formulated to guide the study. Ex-post factoresearch design was adopted for the study. A total sample of 150 agricultural science teachers and 150 studentsdrawn from public secondary schools in the state were involved in the study. The financial Incentive InitiativeOpinion Inventory (FIIOI) and Agricultural Teachers’ Work Disposition (ATWD) questionnaires developed by theresearcher were the instruments used for data collection. The data collected were statistically analyzed using themean and independent t-test at 0.05 level of significance. The finding of the study indicated others, which financialincentive initiatives associated with adequate salary, and prompt payment, significantly influenced agriculturalscience teachers’ work attitude. Based on these finding, it was recommended among others that the governmentshould provide financial incentives to agricultural science teachers by paying their salaries adequately andpromptly. This will motivate them towards improved work attitude.
