World Journal of English Language

http://www.macrothink.org/journal/public/site/images/wjel/wjel-web2.jpg World Journal of English Language (ISSN 1925-0703, E-ISSN 1925-0711) is an international, peer-reviewed, open-access journal published by Sciedu Press. It aims to provide an international forum for the exchange of high-quality research and innovative scholarship on the English language. WJEL is published bimonthly (January, March, May, July, September, and November) in both online and print formats, with occasional special issues.

Manuscripts should be submitted through our online submission portal. Alternatively, submissions can be sent to wjel@sciedupress.com.

Focus and Scope:

WJEL publishes high-quality research with a clear focus on the English language, particularly in the following areas:

English Linguistics: Phonetics, phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, pragmatics, sociolinguistics, cognitive linguistics, corpus linguistics, and the structural analysis of English grammar.
English Literature: Literary theory, critical methodologies, and studies of classic and contemporary works, with an emphasis on fostering interdisciplinary dialogue related to the English language. Authors are encouraged to enrich thematic analyses by incorporating linguistic evidence—such as discourse analysis, lexical choices, syntactic patterns, or corpus-based approaches—to deepen the interpretation of literary texts.
Translation Studies: Translation theory, practice, and interpreting involving English, especially in multilingual contexts, with emphasis on contrastive analysis, discourse features, and language-based approaches to translation.
Applied Linguistics and Language Education: The application of linguistic theory to English language teaching and learning, including second language acquisition, teaching methodologies, curriculum development, teacher training, language assessment (e.g., TOEFL, IELTS), bilingualism/multilingualism, EAP/ESP, discourse and critical discourse analysis (CDA), cross-cultural communication, language policy, classroom practices, instructional design, and the use of technology in language education.

We welcome original, theoretically sound, and impactful research that advances understanding of the English language. All submissions undergo rigorous peer review to ensure academic excellence.

Paper Selection and Publishing Process

a) Submission Acknowledgement

Upon submitting a manuscript online, you will receive an automatic acknowledgement letter from the system. For email submissions, an editor or editorial assistant will send a confirmation to the author within 1-3 working days. If you do not receive this confirmation, check your spam or junk mail folder or contact the editorial assistant at wjel@sciedupress.com.

b) Basic Review

An editor or editorial assistant determines whether the manuscript aligns with the journal’s scope. A plagiarism check is then conducted using CrossCheck by iThenticate. Manuscripts outside the journal’s scope or found to contain plagiarism (including self-plagiarism) will be rejected. Authors will be notified of rejection reasons.

c) Peer Review

We use a double-blind peer review system, ensuring anonymity for both reviewers and authors. The manuscript will be reviewed by at least two experts: one editorial staff member and one to three external reviewers. The review process typically takes 6-12 weeks, depending on reviewer availability and manuscript complexity.

d) Decision Made

The decision to accept or reject an article is based on reviewer recommendations. If reviewers’ opinions differ, the editor-in-chief will evaluate all comments to make a balanced decision or initiate a second round of peer review.

e) Review Outcome Notification

The review outcome will be sent to the corresponding author and shared with co-authors.

f) Article Processing Charge Payment

If the submission is accepted, authors revise paper and pay the Article Processing Charge.

g) Publication Notice

Authors and readers will be notified and invited to access newly published articles on our website.

What is e-Version FirstTM

e-Version First is a feature offered through our journal platform. It allows PDF version of manuscripts that have been peer reviewed and accepted, to be hosted online prior to their inclusion in a final printed journal. Readers can freely access or cite the article. We aim to publish accepted manuscripts in e-Version First in two weeks' time after the final draft is completed.
